Frequently Asked Questions
Questions about the DR e-ticket, our service, or traveling to the Dominican Republic.
Dominican Republic E-Ticket
What is the Dominican Republic e-ticket?
The e-ticket (formulario de viaje) is a mandatory online form required by the Dominican Republic government for all travelers entering or exiting the country. It replaces the old paper immigration and customs forms. You must complete it before your trip.
Do I have to pay for the e-ticket?
The government e-ticket itself is free and can be completed at the official portal (eticket.migracion.gob.do). ExploreDomRep charges a service fee to complete and submit the form on your behalf — we are an independent assistance service, not the government.
When should I fill out my e-ticket?
You can complete the e-ticket up to 7 days before your departure date. We recommend submitting at least 48 hours before your flight to allow time for processing and any corrections.
How do I receive my e-ticket QR code?
Once your e-ticket is submitted, you'll receive a confirmation email with your QR code. Airlines may request it at check-in, and immigration officers will scan it on arrival.
Can one form cover multiple travelers?
No — the Dominican Republic e-ticket must be completed separately for each traveler, including children.

Traveling to the Dominican Republic
Do I need a visa to visit the Dominican Republic?
Most visitors from the US, Canada, EU, and UK do not need a visa — entry is covered by the tourist fee included in most airline tickets. However, entry requirements vary by nationality. Always verify with official sources before traveling.
Is the Dominican Republic safe for tourists?
Popular tourist areas like Punta Cana, Santo Domingo's colonial zone, and major resort areas are generally safe and well-visited. Like any destination, normal travel precautions apply. Check current travel advisories from your government before departure.
What currency is used in the Dominican Republic?
The official currency is the Dominican Peso (DOP). US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas, but you'll get better value exchanging to pesos. Major hotels and restaurants accept credit cards; smaller businesses often prefer cash.
What language do people speak in the Dominican Republic?
Spanish is the official language. In heavily touristed areas, English is commonly spoken at hotels and resorts. Learning a few basic Spanish phrases — or Dominican slang — goes a long way.
What is the best time of year to visit?
The DR is a year-round destination. The dry season (December–April) offers the most reliable weather. The rainy season (May–November) coincides with hurricane season, though many visitors travel during this period for lower prices.
