What to bring to the Dominican Republic — and what to leave at home.
Documents
Essential- Passport (valid 6+ months)
- E-ticket QR code (printed + digital)
- Travel insurance documents
- Hotel confirmation
- Flight itinerary
- Copies of all documents stored separately
Clothing
- Lightweight, breathable fabrics (it's hot)
- Swimwear (2–3 sets)
- Sandals or flip-flops
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Light layer for AC in restaurants and taxis
- Dressy outfit if visiting upscale restaurants
- Rain jacket or compact umbrella (if traveling May–Nov)
Health & pharmacy
- Prescription medications (with original packaging)
- Sunscreen SPF 50+ (expensive locally)
- Insect repellent (DEET recommended)
- Antidiarrheal medication
- Antihistamines
- Hand sanitizer
- Rehydration sachets
Practical gear
- Universal power adapter (US plugs work, but adapter is handy)
- Portable charger / power bank
- Waterproof bag or dry bag for beach days
- Reusable water bottle (fill from sealed jugs, not tap)
- Padlock for luggage
Money
Essential- Debit card that works internationally (low fees)
- Some USD cash (accepted in tourist areas)
- Notify your bank before travel
- Avoid airport currency kiosks — use bank ATMs
Leave at home
- Expensive jewelry or watches
- More clothes than you need (laundry is cheap)
- Bottled water (buy locally)
- Hairdryer (most hotels provide one)
